• Indonesia: With around 21 million metric tons, Indonesia secures the leading position in top Nickel producing countries. Only in the year 2023, it dug around 1.8 million tons of nickel from mines, accounting for approx. 40% of the world’s Nickel.
• Australia: Australia owns the largest Nickel reserves and has around 20% of the world’s Nickel. Mainly, the sulphide and lateritic deposits in Western Australia contribute to its huge Nickel production.
• Russia: Due to a rapid increase in the country’s Nickel production, it has become the 3rd largest Nickel producer. It produced 219,000t and 193,000t of Nickel in the year 2022 and 2021 respectively.
• India: States of India including Odisha, Jharkhand, and Nagaland hold the credits for the majority of Nickel reserves followed by Karnataka, and Kerala. Indigenous production has the potential to meet 50% of the country’s Nickel demands.
• Philippines: It produced around 360,000 tons of Nickel in 2022. However, the country was blessed further by the Taganito and Cagdianao mines that increased its output more in the year 2023, the country has gained tons of benefits.
• New Caledonia: After a setback in 2019, the country’s Nickel production increased to 230,000 METRIC TONS in 2023, credit goes to Koniambo mine. From year 2016, the government has approved its exporting operations with China.
• Canada: The majority of Canada’s Nickel comes from Sudbury’s Basin. Ontario and Quebec produce 50% and 27% of the country’s Nickel production respectively.
• China: China’s Nickel production and demand have increased due to its developing operations in urbanization and industrialization. The major Nickel deposits are Magmatic segregation and weathering crust.
• Brazil: It produces around 55% of its own consumption. Accounted for around 8% of the world’s production. It has elevated from 74,400 metric tons in 2019 to 89,000 metric tons in 2023.
• United States: Michigan is the highest and the only major Nickel production state. The high-grade Nickel production is found in Eagle Mine here. In 2023, it produced 17000 metric tons of Nickel.
• Japan: Japan also exports and imports decent Nickel quantity for its industrialization. The country highly consumes Nickel for its electronic goods. Sumitomo Metal Mine is the primary company contributing to Nickel production.
• Germany: Germany accounts for one of the largest Nickel importers. Russia is its top Nickel supplier and provides around 25% of it along with metals such as chromium and cadmium.
• Netherlands: The Netherlands is the top Nickel exporter to Canada’s market along with other nations. Though its export value slightly turned down in 2022, the country is setting up to improve its metal production in upcoming years.
• South Korea: Though the country’s Nickel consumption rate is higher than its production, it exported a high quantity of Nickel in the year 2022. South Korea contributed to 2,500 tons of global Nickel export in 2021. And Now it does depend on Nickel trading services.
• Germany: Unlike the countries we mentioned earlier, Germany holds its position as one of the largest Nickel importers. In 2022, it imported $3.71 million of Nickel mainly from Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, France and Singapore.
